Summer car maintenance check
When the warmer weather arrives we tend to spend more time on the road as we head off on holiday and for weekend breaks.
It’s a good idea to do a seasonal check on your car and follow a few maintenance procedures before you set out on those long journeys.
- Air filter: Inspect the filter for dirt and tears in the paper and replace if necessary.
Typically, it’s a good idea to do this twice a year.
- Anti-freeze: Anti-freeze raises the boiling point of the water in your radiator so the water can keep the engine cool even at the higher mid-summer temperatures. Make sure you use the correct concentration.
- Check your battery: Corrosion is more likely to build up during winter weather driving, so it’s a good idea to check the condition of your battery when Spring arrives.
- Inspect your brakes: Check your brakes and brake fluid twice a year to make sure everything is in order. If your car has an anti-lock braking system (ABS) keep an eye on your dashboard indicator.
- Check your headlights: Check to see if you need to replace a headlight bulb.
- Seat belts: Make sure belts are not frayed or torn and that they unreel smoothly and retract easily.
